1999 Pix Aplenty!

Chris Ekman's Keneally Kartoons

Our heroes after the Casbah gig in San Diego, 1:15 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 1999. <L to R> Bob Tedde (vocals), Bryan Beller (bass and vocals), Mike Keneally (guitar and lead vocals), Jason Harrison Smith (drums and vocals), Evan Francis (saxophone).

The fully realized six-piece BFD onstage for the first time at the Coach House, San Juan Capistrano, California, Thursday, April 1, 1999.

The fully realized six-piece BFD onstage for the last time (for now) at Sacred Grounds, San Pedro, California, Saturday, April 4, 1999.

TWO BANDS IN ONE-- Beer For Dolphins and the Les Lokey Band pause for a triumphant post-gig photo at Sacred Grounds, San Pedro, California, 1:10 a.m., Sunday, April 4, 1999. (Clockwise, from top left) Marc Ziegenhagen (keyboards and vocals; BFD/Les Lokey Band), Les Lokey (guitar and lead vocals; Les Lokey Band), Jason Harrison Smith (drums and vocals; BFD/Les Lokey Band), Evan Francis (saxophone; BFD), Rick Musallam (guitar and vocals; BFD), Bryan Beller (bass and vocals; BFD), Joe Puerta (bass and vocals; Les Lokey Band), Mike Keneally (guitar and vocals; BFD/Les Lokey Band), This was the climactic final night of the BFD mini-tour, supported by the startlingly original Les Lokey.

BFD STEALS SECOND BASS-- Mikey and the boys indulged in some precision head-ripping-off during the first Wednesday Night Workout at The Baked Potato, Hollywood, California, where this shot was taken at 9:50 p.m., May 12, 1999. The idea for this workout was to futz with the possibilities of two bassists-- and who better to join the fun than ex-Keneally bassman (and Wayne Kramer compadre-- this gets complicated) Doug Lunn, at left. Doug and Bryan meshed exquisitely on a number of stellar experiments, including a delicate, reworked "Open Up" and a variety of MK mainstays. The rest o' the boys are, of course, (L. to R.) Evan Francis (saxophone), the right arm of Jason Harrison Smith (drums and vocals), a temporarily koasting Keneally, Bryan Beller (bass and vocals) and Rick Musallam (guitar and vocals).

Mike Announces New Solo Release
As MK/BFD Rock Full Sail Success Seminar

Mike chose the annual Full Sail Success Seminar in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, June 5 to announce to over 1200 students the upcoming release of his new solo project. The CD, entitled "Nonkertompf," will be an instrumental album written and performed entirely by Mike, who describes the album as "taffy-like." It's nearly 70% completed and is scheduled to be released in late August. Advance orders for numbered, limited edition autographed copies will be available from MooseMart by mid-July.

The announcement was made during a 95-minute lecture/interview conducted by Full Sail's Director of Music History Keith Lay (above, right) prior to the show. The last section of the lecture featured the full BFD lineup collaborating with audience members on an improv piece, and playing a composition by guest musician Chris Opperman. MK/BFD's happy relationship with Full Sail, the unique School of All Media that made the second half of last year's U.S. tour possible, continues to grow stronger with each exciting joint venture. Britches Naboo!

An energized 6 1/2-piece MK/BFD headlined Full Sail's Success Seminar. See?

The people who played the music that the other people listened to were Marc Ziegenhagen (keyboards and vocals, too far to the left for you to see), Evan Francis (saxophone), Chris Opperman (trumpet, egg, hopping and bop bop bop), Jason Harrison Smith (drums and vocals), Mike Keneally (guitar, keyboards and lead vocals), Bryan Beller (bass and vocals) and Rick Musallam (guitar, vocals and bad physical reaction to the Orlando humidity).

The concert and the complete MK lecture/interview will be webcast at http://www.fullsail.com at a time to be announced soon.

Those wacky BFD boys swapped instruments at the June 16 Baked Potato show.

Yes, they sure did.

Mike personally signed and numbered 500 Nonkertompf Special Editions as soon as they were manufactured the week of August 16 to insure speedy delivery. Look at him go!

The world's first glimpse of Nonkertompf! What a load of satisfyng fun this has been!

Evan, Mike and Bryan celebrate after debuting live acoustic Nonkertompf renditions at the Lou's Records record release bash on August 28.

Scott and Mike check out some new releases at Lou's Records.

It's loads of fun!
It's Number One!
It's Nonkertompf!

Better luck next time, G. Love & Special Sauce!
MK & NK are also #91 on The Album Network's National Chart and #11 on the CIMS (Coalition of Independent Music Stores) Chart.
