The Official Mike Keneally Website

MK & BFD SHOWS START SATURDAY!

Yo, you!

Getting ready to do Beer For Dolphins gigs – we’ve got San Pedro this Saturday, San Diego (El Cajon actually) on Sunday and San Francisco on Wednesday. Figured out the setlist yesterday. It’s going to be a hootenanny and three-quarters – please come to one of these shows if you can!

And hey! We’ve got a couple of free tickets for the San Francisco gig, which we are exclusively making available here on The Keneallist. Here’s how to get them – rewrite the lyrics to the beginning of one of my songs, and send them to rewritemike@keneally.com. Whichever lyrics make me smile the widest and/or laugh the loudest gets the comps – just have them sent in by Tuesday please. Good luck!

And, hey again! We somehow published the wrong date for the upcoming Baked Potato Beer For Dolphins show in the last Keneallist – it’s actually FRIDAY JUNE 19 (not Saturday the 20th). Sorry for the confusion!

Also, the night before that (Thursday June 18th) I’ll be playing in Jamie Kime‘s band at the Baked Potato. We’ll be playing songs from his seriously wonderful debut album Alleys (seriously co-produced by me) and some other things as well. Tickets here!

And on June 12th I’ll be at the Wiltern in LA in Joe Satriani‘s band as part of BENEFIT FOR CLIFF III, along with Steve Vai and Animals As Leaders, with a special guest appearance from Brendon Small. I just checked the seating chart here (link removed) and there are still some seats available but this night looks likely to sell out, so move on it quickly if you want to witness this special event.

I know there’s a lot of people wanting to see Beer For Dolphins in places other than California, but between my schedule finishing up Scambot 2, Bryan Beller‘s Aristocrats touring and Joe Travers‘ continuing work with the Zappa tape vault, this is all we’ve got time for right now. We will do our best to make more shows happen in more locations in 2016.

OK! Back to practicing. Thank you!

Mike

MIKE & BFD ARE ROAD-READY! SAN DIEGO PARTY ADDED!

Wow, can you believe it’s 2015 already?

Hi, space travel fans! I’m on the home stretch of making the Scambot 2 album. I’m not making any predictions, but I predict it’s going to be a good album. We’ll announce pre-order details when we know the release date, and I hope to know that very soon. I’m making a lot of progress daily on it and I have a date in my head by when I intend for us to be done with the tracking and mixing.

I’m taking a few moments away from the studio next month, though, to get some Beer For Dolphins gigs in with Bryan Beller and Joe Travers. I wish there were time for us to do anything other than a few California dates, but Scambot 2 is a heavy priority right now.

We’ll be doing a handful of very fun things – gigs at Alva’s in San Pedro, Biscuits & Blues in San Francisco, and the Baked Potato in Los Angeles – plus an exclusive gig in the backyard of a friend of ours’ place in El Cajon near San Diego (if you’re interested in attending this semi-private gala please write to our host at bfdbash@laffland.com. It promises to be insanely fun, in the way that only things that happen in backyards can be.)

There won’t be much time for many more MK/BFD gigs this year it seems, so if you want to see one of our shows and you can be in California in early June, please try to come around and see us.

NEW RELEASES

So many new albums coming – besides my own, I’m also on the new Joe Satriani album Shockwave Supernova which comes out in July.

That album also features Bryan Beller and Marco Minnemann, members of The Aristocrats (they’re also both on Scambot 2). The new Aristocrats album Tres Caballeros comes out in June. And Marco’s new album Celebration is out in a couple of weeks too.

It’s a lot of new albums, but we’re all trying to get in under the wire before the worldwide ban on album-making takes hold in early 2016. (Well okay, it’s not strictly worldwide, but it will be illegal for anyone other than Taylor Swift and Yo-Yo Ma to make albums.)

Oh and jeez another new album you need to know about is Godsticks‘ new one Emergence. It comes out in August. Godsticks are a brilliant band that we were fortunate to play and travel with on the last Keneally Band European tour, and they are wonderful lads, in addition to making beautiful and complex hard rock music that you would enjoy greatly – please check it out.

MORE EVENTS

On June 12 I’ll be playing in Satriani’s band as part of Benefit For Cliff III, in support of our friend Cliff Cultreri who definitely can you use our help in his medical struggles – Steve Vai and Animals As Leaders will also perform.

And in late June please come on out to The G4 Experience, where I’ll be immersed in all things guitar for four days in gorgeous Cambria, CA, alongside Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats and Animals As Leaders – a fearsome lineup of players and instructors if ever there were a fearsome lineup of players and instructors!

And! If you are in Europe! Between September and November! I’ll be over there with the Satriani band for the first leg of the Shockwave Supernova tour (more to come in 2016).

Thank you everyone – hope you’re doing well – and hope to see you soon.

Love,

Mike

More MK/BFD shows in June! 21% off all Keneally products NOW!

I’m camped out on my couch letting my back recover from a move. We moved to where there’s a few more trees around. No regrets!

Main thing I wanted to say here: Mike Keneally & Beer For Dolphins (the Keneally/Beller/Travers version thereof) are going to be bouncing around California a bit in June, doing gigs in San Pedro, LA and San Francisco – we’re going to rage righteously! (See dates below.) Our last Baked Potato gig was insane – I honestly think we’ve never played better and I’m excited to discover how much further things can go. Please attend if you can my friend!

(Also – on June 19, the night before the BFD gig at the Potato, I’ll be playing there with Jamie Kime again. If you weren’t able to make last month’s Kime gig, voila! Another shot!)

Beer For Dolphins first emerged as a band name 21 years ago – and I understand that the Keneally Store is commemorating this reality – allow me to step aside momentarily for a commercial interruption please…

What’d I miss? I was in the kitchen.

More sssstuff (that’s my Chuck Barris impersonation): in late June the G4 Experience will be taking place again in Cambria, CA, featuring Joe Satriani, The Aristocrats, Animals As Leaders and myself doing instruction and performances in a severely idyllic setting. Guitar overload and a big ton of fun. Last year’s was great and I’m very happy to be returning for more.

The new Satriani album is hitting the “shops” in July and the next round of Satch touring begins soon afterward – check out Satriani.com for details. We’re hitting Europe first, with lots more dates to come.

Had a great time a few nights ago at the 1st anniversary of BAKED with Brendon Small and Steve Agee at the Baked Potato. A great lineup of comics including Brody Stevens, Marc Maron, Dean Delray, Dana Gould, Karen Kilgariff – it was nuts I tell ya! Both Marc and Dean asked me to appear on their podcasts so keep an ear cocked for that.

I’m not making any promises here, least of all to myself, but I am severely dedicated to the CONCEPT of completing Scambot 2 in the next few weeks. I have an end date in my head which I’m keeping in there for now, but I’m fired up and ready to put this sucker to bed. Maybe we’ll do a live stream of an album session like we did a few times while we were doing Wing Beat Fantastic and You Must Be This Tall (those session videos are still archived on the Keneally Ustream page btw). Would y’all be into that? We will pre-order info for you as soon as we feel thoroughly sure that that light we see is actually the end of the tunnel and not just oncoming traffic.

Thank you for reals! See you soon!

Love,

Mike
