Here's my version of it, along with the verse and chorus, and ending. It's mostly based on the solo acoustic version on Dancing With Myself, but I consulted the studio version also. Maybe I'll do the middle part tonight if I can't find anything else to do.

Much the same as the first, but with different words and a different ending which leads to the instrumental part and the bridge. Maybe I'll transcribe it later hmm?

This is probably not exactly what the guitar part is, but it sounds okay. Feel free to improve upon it.

That fifth group is definitely on the mark, although it sounds odd the first time you play it. We debated that one to death if I recall, but the video tells the tale. I'm 99% certain the second group is also correct, with the possible exception of the B string being played. The position is right anyway.

I replace that Gsus4 with C/G. Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

OK, I think we're about there on getting the main riff down. Mine is much closer to Ron's now. He picked up a few things I missed and I think there's a couple little things that should be changed. Here's my new version, always open to correction, broken up into two staffs because it looks like dogshit on my news reader to cram it all into one line. (A little suggestion for all the tabaholics out there - don't make your lines too long or they'll be a mess when someone tries to read it. I've done it too, but it makes for difficult reading.)

On the second bit, Ron added the 5th fret on the B string. I hadn't heard that in there, but I did it and I think it's very right. Yay! I definitely hear the two open strings after the pull-off towards the end, though that might be my imagination. I'm adding the C note on the bottom of the last chord all the way through, which seems right, my lame-ass left hand just doesn't like moving that quick.

Either works, but I'm quite confident it's the Gsus4, myself. Two open strings under the 1st fret of the B string seems important to me there.

Ok, so I said I'd take a crack at the guitar/vibes duet in LIJ, so here it is:

The opening figure is a seven note melody played four times successively, then it starts to mutate. The part I didn't notate at the end should be easy to figure out, basically it's tremelo picking (roughly 32nd notes) the high D (22 on high E), with a couple of C to D hammer-on accents, followed at the very end with a couple of whole step bends from F to G (I found it easiest to do on the B string).

I have no idea if this is the fingering Mike uses, but I'm pretty sure the notes are right. Find alternate fingerings for yourself if these seem skewed to you. Watching Mike play this tune live, I'm pretty sure the fingering for at least the opening figure is correct.

I like your way of playing this, Yogi, and I'm sure it's what Mike plays. The thing is, well... have you ever seen a grown left hand weep? Me neither, but that's what mine sure wants to do from trying to play this. Anyone who's ever taken a close look at my hands knows a 6-fret stretch is not easy for me... you know, small hands and feet are not necessarily indicative of.. well nevermind. Oh well, at times like this I always try to keep Django Reinhardt in mind. If that guy could play jazz with two fingers, I should be able to play this little biotch!

Oh and if anybody finds my version of this that I posted last night, ignore it and use Yogi's version. His notes are more accurate. But that same post starts off with tab for the end of the second chorus and the "Will you think of me when I've gone to Japan" bit, which is usable. I might as well say "Tal" because this is pretty much for his benefit, presuming he's still in the business of archiving this stuff.

I've been enjoying the MK/BFD tab (...) and having a go at some of them. I would like to submit this as my take on the main Live In Japan intro/riff. I think the existing tabs are a bit more tricky than they need to be and there's more first position stuff in there. I'm not happy with the last chord. I'm sure there's an E in it and it sounds like an open string to me - but there isn't one available in the right register.

I don't have a problem with the more "open" arrangement; you could
definitely play it however you want without pissing anyone off too badly.
:-) But the existing tab is closer to what Mike actually plays, as per the
video evidence. This way is fine too.
