 The chords to "Open Up"
        are, as they say in film, in order of appearance: C#/B, E/D, F#/E C/Bb Eb2, F2 Ab Db, Eb E, E/F#, E/G# A2 D/E, E/F#, B/A Ab (6,9) Marc Z.
Then, Mike Pierry added: I propose that the formal scheme
        of "Open Up!" is the following: AA'BCDA''CDBA''CBA''C'A''C'A'''   A ------|C#/B E/D |F#/E |
  1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
        1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & |C#/B E/D |F#/E | 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 &
        1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & ------ A'

"Open Up!" For DummiesFirst of all, that's not meant
as a disparaging title. Thing is, I'm including myself amongst the dummies
because I was trying to play "Open Up!" just now and I found
it difficult to follow my own notation. It's a deceptively complex song,
in that it is made out of a lot of little bits which are strung together
first one way, then another, then another, etc., and then some of the
bits are subject to a number of variations. Anyway, when I first figured
out the song (which isn't hard, it just requires some patience to sit
there and mark down where all the changes occur), I decided to highlight
the complexity of the song, which makes the notation nice to gawk at but
a bit messy when it comes down to just trying to play it for gosh sakes.
I find it rather inconvenient, at least. How about some chords first,
before we get into the actual song? Most of the chords to this song have
a 7th in the root. For example, C#/B and E/D. These you would play like
        this: C#/B E/D e------------
 B--6---9-----
 G--6---9-----
 D--6---9-----
 A------------
 E--7---10----
 Similarly, here are two ways
        to play another of these kinda chords: F#/E ---- ---- -2-- -11-
 -3-- or -11-
 -4-- -11-
 ---- ----
 -0-- -12-
 Generally, the way these chords
work is, you hit just the bass note on the beat, and on the "and"
of the beat you play the rest of the chord. Sounds complicated but it's
not. Like so: [The first measure of the song] e-------------------------------------------B------------6-------6---------9--------9---
 G------------6-------6---------9--------9---
 D------------6-------6---------9--------9---
 A-------------------------------------------
 E--2-4-2-7-------7-------10--------10-------
 ...and-One-and-two-and-three-and-four-and-
 That was probably completely
obvious, but I'm trying to make up for the obtuseness of my last attempt
        at notating this song. Anyway, a few more chords?   Eb2 F2 D/E E/F# Ab6/9---------2----4------11---
 -6---8---3----5------11---
 -8---10--2----4------10---
 -8---10--2----4------10---
 -6---8---------------11---
 --------------------------
Et cetera, these should be enough
to get you through the song. So the following is what happens when you
follow the "formula" I came up with way back when (which you
can of course still peruse on Tal's website) and put all the little pieces
together in the correct order (like a jigsaw). Where there are no lyrics,
I put beats so you know when to play the chords. So now, enjoy the kinder,
        gentler chord chart for "Open Up!"    C#/B E/D F#/E 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & 2x
