Potato

Transcribed by Michael Pierry, 1/23/2000:

I haven't tabbed out the solo *. This would be a good one to transcribe, because it's a written solo so it's not too hard, and it'd be really fun to play live with a band.
[* see below-AA]

I tried to sort of indicate where the chords go with spacing, but for goodness sake use your ears! Chord shapes are at the end.

   A Dsus2 F#m
e----------0----------2----
B--2-------3----------2----
G--2-------2----------2----
D--2-------0----------4----
A--0-------0----------4----
E---------------------2----

Another way to play the Dsus2:

   Dsus2
e--0--
B--5--
G--7--
D--7--
A--0--
E-----

   A7*
e--------------------
B----3---2---0-------
G----0---0-----2-0---
D--------------------
A--0-----------------
E--------------------

   Em Em6
e-----------0---
B-----0--2------
G-----0--0------
D--2------------
A--2------------
E--0------------

   C/B Bm7 Gm7
e--0--0--0-----2--2--3--3--
B--1--1--1-----3--3--3--3--
G--0--0--0-----2--2--3--3--
D-(4)(4)(4)----4--4--3--3--
A--2--2--2-----2--2--5--5--
E--------------------3--3--

The parenthetical note in the C/B chord adds a nice density to the chord but is not *necessarily* what is being played on the recording, so you can consider it optional. Just to be clear, to play this chord you'd put your middle finger on the second fret of the fifth string, your first finger on the first fret of the second string, and the parenthetical F# would be achieved by placing your pinky on the fourth fret of the fourth string.

Ah, the controversial "Now you're going to sing" bit. The following is, to the best of my ability, an accurate transcription of what actually occurs in the guitar part during this part of the song:

        Bb C/Bb A7 D/E E/D
e----------------0---------2------4-----------
B-------3--------1----2----3------5-----------
G-------3--------0----0----2------4-----------
D--3-3--3--------2----2----2------0-----------
A--1-1--1--------1----0-----------------------
E----------1-0-1---------------------10/sl----

I'm bad at tab. "10/sl" is supposed to mean you slide up from the 10th fret, toward the headstock, you know? This is a very quick slide, it lasts about the space of a quarter-note.

Also note, the A7 is NOT officially sanctioned by the almighty Ziegen-Lydian, so if you don't want to play it, you are not legally bound to do so.

The chords used for the chorus are fairly standard, so I won't bother tabbing them out.
