Why Am I Your
Guy?
Transcribed by Michael Pierry, 1/21/2000
Chords and a bit of tab. I was
inspired by JDMack to do this. I didn't think all his chords were right,
and you know how that gets me going... or maybe you don't. Well, now you
do! Anyway, so this is my interpretation of this song.
We're gonna call this the Pinball
Wizard riff. You play a G and then a G sus4. Do it up on the 10th fret
like this:
e-------------
B--12-----13--
G--12-----12--
D--12-----12--
A--10-----10--
E-------------
I think you can figure out what to do with that. More chords?

Verse 2 is basically the same thing.
Then cometh the bridge:
Ebmaj7 Bb Fmaj7 C

B--3--3--3--3-----3--3--3--3----5--5--5--5----5--5--5--5--

"Suppose I were to die, forget I said it..."
Now comes the "solo"
(in quotes because it's more like an instrumental break). This is played
over the chords from the 2nd part of the verse:
Eb Bb
e----------------------------------------------------------
B--15-16---15---13-----------------------------------------
G--------------------15--14--12--14---15-------------------

e----------15----------15----------------------------------------------
B--b15(17)-----b15(17)----(17)-15--13--b15(17)--b15(17)--(17)--15--13--
G----------------------------------------------------------------------

A-----------------------------------------------------------------------
E-----------------------------------------------------------------------
G
e----------------------------
B--------12---15-------------
G--12-14-----------12--------
D----------------------------
A----------------------------
E----------------------------
Then it's 3rd verse and out. The very last chord is:
G13
e-----------0--
B--1-----------
G--2-----------
D--3-----------
A--------------
E--3-----------
Don't forget that open E, it's
important! To be honest I don't know that the guitar plays that low G,
but the bass sure does, so it's definitely the root of that chord.
A little note about the tab notation
used. When you see something like this: b15(17) that means bend the note
up the same note as the fret in parenthesis. In other words in the above
example, you're bending a D up to an E. The only thing I had trouble with
was indicating a bend release, so you'll have to rely on your ears to
get some of those more subtle nuances.
Adds Marc Ziegenhagen:
Minor fixes, these. Hope no one
minds:

That second chord is actually D/A.
>Gsus4 Eb F

That first chord is actually C/G
>G Gsus4

>of me now?
That last chord is actually G/B, but I guess maybe the guitar doesn't have
to have the "B" in the root now does it? No, I didn't think so. :-)
Good job on this tune, MP.

I hear an open E in that chord in the guitar. Is it possible Mike plays
a Dsus2/A there?

I hear a D in there as well as the open E. Again, is it possible Mike
plays a Cadd2/G chord here? Might I add that this would make sense from
a guitarist's point of view because all you'd have to do is slide down
two frets from the Dsus2/A.

If it seems logical on the guitar,
then go with it; yah, I wouldn't be surprised if those extra 9ths are
in there too. Sure *sounds* good, either way.
