Mike's Fingers
(1996)
Nowhere Man

What sets all guitar players apart from one another? Tone and attitude. Where does a player's tone come from? His tone comes through the hands and the fingertips. A players touch says it all. Nowadays I suppose that could be considered "the interface" with the instrument. That is why a great player is recognizable no matter what brand of gear he picks up. Mike sounds like Mike playing ANY guitar.

As seen in this photo, these fingers are where all that great Keneally guitar magic starts; the left hand. Mike's left index finger has now permanently transformed (deformed) to accommodate his constant guitar playing. He can no longer straighten it out fully-it has a crook in it. This morph doesn't seem to bother him when he isn't playing though (I've asked). He also seems to be able to unhinge his fingers and really stretch them laterally. His fingers are long and slender too, which helps a little; even though Mike says he has to work very hard to keep up with Steve Vai's really long digits. By the way, Danny Gatton had short stubby sausage fingers and he played at light speeds. Maybe that is where the attitude comes into play.
