The Tour Chronology: 2006

In the final weeks of winter, MK are back in Europe again. One of the main events is a reprise of The Universe Will Provide with Holland’s Metropole Orkest (w/BB). Before that, Kristjan Järvi’s Absolute Ensemble featuring Mike Keneally and Napoleon Murphy Brock perform Absolute/Zappa® in Austria and Italy.

MK/BB acoustic gigs continue.

GuitarTherapy Live gets its release.

Mike Keneally’s Circus of Values! returns to Dizzy’s, with guests including Chad Wackerman, Scott Thunes and Marco Minneman.

MK/BB “do” the Midwest as part of their ongoing Taylor Guitars tour.

In the Fall of 2006 MK announces that he is named the National Musical Director for Paul Green’s School of Rock and will also be running the San Diego branch of the School of Rock.

The Tour Chronology: 2006

NAMM 2006

January 21 2006 – John Lennon School Bus Stage, NAMM Show, Anaheim, CA
Mike Keneally performs two songs with the Paul Green School of Rock All-Stars

February 16 2006 – The Gig, Hollywood, CA
Mike Keneally Band, Bryan Beller, Rick Musallam’s band Smug and others perform at WesFest:
A Concert To Benefit The Wes Wehmiller Memorial Scholarship at Berklee College Of Music
[performers are: The Mike Keneally Band, SMUG, Kira Small, Dan Rockett, Ali Handal, Touched, Bryan Beller]
personnel: MK, BB, RM, JT
setlist: Quimby, Beautiful, Top of Stove Melting, Cause of Breakfast
MK comments: Wes Fest last night was absolutely beautiful. Sorry you couldn’t all be there. Bryan Beller will probably do a full report on his website at some point so check out www.bryanbeller.com periodically until he does. We played a four-song set of Wes’ favorite Keneally songs — Quimby, Beautiful, Stove and Breakfast. Since it was a short set we didn’t have to conserve energy so it was pretty much a nonstop explosion. Very enjoyable and wherever Wes was listening from, I sure hope he liked it.

MK comments: The crowd of about 250 people or so were friends, family and business associates of Herbert, covering all age groups, and not a lot of them were familiar with my music, but Herbert generously provided a lengthy introduction which helped to make them not terrified, and they were extremely attentive, kind and appreciative — and I was jazzed to find that the rowdier and crazier we got, the more they dug it. Many sincerely white-haired people thanked me afterwards for the “beautiful music.” Right on!

MK comments:
The major news for the moment and for the foreseeable future is that I’ve been named the National Music Director for the Paul Green School of Rock. I’ve known Paul since 2003, feel deeply what he feels and have witnessed firsthand the benefits which the kids in his program have been receiving – in fact some of the most exciting musical moments I experienced this year were at School of Rock All-Stars shows. The whole School of Rock scene is totally infectious, and the opportunity to have an impact on the musical development of young people across the country is something I take most seriously. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and will make the most of it.
In addition to my duties as National Music Director, I’ll also be running a San Diego branch of the School of Rock. We’re still in the preliminary stages of locating a suitable venue for the school but will be open for business early in 2007. Do you want your kids, 8 through 18 years of age, to be trained by me to rock like a massive unfair behemoth? Of course you do. For enrollment information you should write to me at deleted@deleted.com.
One of my first official duties, though, will be leading a group of All-Stars on the road, starting the day after Christmas, on their East Coast tour. These are not Keneally performances – I’ll be presenting the group and perhaps I can be coerced into picking up a guitar on an encore or something, but these shows are firmly about the kids rocking like maniacs. You owe it to yourself to check this out.
