MK comments: The crowd of about 250 people or so were friends, family and business associates of Herbert, covering all age groups, and not a lot of them were familiar with my music, but Herbert generously provided a lengthy introduction which helped to make them not terrified, and they were extremely attentive, kind and appreciative — and I was jazzed to find that the rowdier and crazier we got, the more they dug it. Many sincerely white-haired people thanked me afterwards for the “beautiful music.” Right on!

“The major news for the moment and for the foreseeable future is that I’ve been named the National Music Director for the Paul Green School of Rock. I’ve known Paul since 2003, feel deeply what he feels and have witnessed firsthand the benefits which the kids in his program have been receiving – in fact some of the most exciting musical moments I experienced this year were at School of Rock All-Stars shows. The whole School of Rock scene is totally infectious, and the opportunity to have an impact on the musical development of young people across the country is something I take most seriously. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and will make the most of it.
In addition to my duties as National Music Director, I’ll also be running a San Diego branch of the School of Rock. We’re still in the preliminary stages of locating a suitable venue for the school but will be open for business early in 2007.
